About Amanda Peterson

I earned my bachelor’s degree from Florida State University with a double major in Family & Child Sciences and Psychology. My master’s degree is in Marriage & Family Therapy from Auburn University. I have training and continue to train in Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples. I have additional training in Sex Therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy, Structural Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy; all of which are evidence-based models.

I have provided therapy for adolescents and adults in a variety of settings: private practice, East Alabama Mental Health, Auburn University, and Mount Meigs Prison. I have worked with clients who have a variety of concerns, including relationship issues, communication, intimacy, sexual issues, affair recovery, premarital therapy, discernment, divorce recovery, anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, and parenting difficulties. I have co-led group therapy where the focus was repairing relationships and emotion regulation. Through my time at Auburn University, I conducted research in the Marriage and Retirement Study and specifically focused on forgiveness in marriage.

I am also passionate about educating Georgia’s youth on suicide prevention, mental health, and coping skills.

I am a Licensed Associate Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of Georgia (AMFT000525) and continue to train with AAMFT Approved Supervisor and EFT Approved Supervisor, Margaret Keiley, Ed.D.
