Families

Sometimes it feels like no one in your family really gets you. Everything turns into an argument, even when you're just trying to be heard. You and everyone else feel stuck, frustrated, and hurt.

At Relate Counseling, we use Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), an approach that is proven to help families just like yours. We help you understand each other better by focusing on what’s really going on underneath the surface. It’s not about blaming anyone or forcing you to “open up”—it’s about creating a space where you can feel safe, say what you actually feel, and start reconnecting in a real way.  EFFT can help your family work through tough issues together and feel more like a team again.

There is not a one size fits all approach to family therapy. Initially, your therapist will either meet with everyone to get a sense of the dynamic or pick a "dyad" (e.g., parents, a parent and child) to begin working with. As your therapist starts to understand the goals, underlying patterns and stuck spots, your therapist will collaborate with you on the layout of the sessions moving forward.
