I view my work as a therapist as one where I walk alongside my client (whether an individual or a couple) as they navigate difficult life situations, perceived weaknesses, and fears. For my individual clients facing anxiety, depression, or challenging relationships, we review beneficial coping skills, meaningful goals, new thinking strategies, and our complex emotions to help pave a clearer and more peaceful path forward. For my couples, when even going to therapy can feel so threatening and destabilizing, I opt to create a warm, caring environment where we learn new patterns of relating that are respectful, energizing, and understanding. In therapy, we don’t want to recreate the negative interactions of our everyday lives, and we do want to foster engagements that are fulfilling and nourishing.
I believe that through listening and the therapeutic relationship, I can work with clients individually to highlight their strengths, resilience, and propensity for positive change in times of stress, challenge, and pain. Being able to be guided by the client’s personal needs and inclinations, I seek to engage clients in a process of healing and metamorphosis, whether small or large. With the experience of my own personal background, coupled with advanced training in emotionally focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, the enneagram, mindfulness, and narrative therapy, I choose to meet the client where she or he is.
